The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Piping Estimator to join our high-performing Estimating team in Seattle. You will be joining an experienced and motivated group of people where you will have the opportunity to establish yourself as a key contributor to the team. As part of this team, you will work on exciting, complex, and large projects. To be successful, you must have a strong sense of ownership, be technically proficient, and possess excellent communication skills, as you will be collaborating with team members of all levels.

Our ideal candidate is a self-starting decision maker who has excellent listening skills and extreme attention to detail. Excellent time management and organizational skills will help to ensure success in this role. You will be expected to clearly communicate with the estimating team, engineers, and our sales and business development teams across the company.

We have a wide range of customers and projects that include large commercial, life sciences, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, technology, manufacturing, and industrial. The size and complexity of the projects we work on varies and can range anywhere from $1M-$100M+.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Interface with all departments including sales and project teams, special projects group, and engineering.
  • Intake bid documents from internal/external teams.
  • Reviewing all drawings and specifications before starting on projects.
  • Reach out to equipment vendors and subcontractors for pricing through Building Connected platform.
  • Performing complete and accurate on-screen quantity takeoff for mechanical piping, plumbing systems, and industrial/process piping.
  • Composing project scope letters starting with job specific inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications.
  • Follow-up with internal/external customers after estimates are sent out.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Experience in estimating, takeoff, spreadsheets, budgeting, and cost control
  • Experience with design build and design assist projects.
  • Experience reviewing projects specifications and details.
  • Experience with any of the following database estimating software programs including but not limited to Autobid Trimble, MEP EST, Quotesoft, Fast Duct or Fast Pipe, or others
  • Experience using Building connected, Procore or other construction file sharing service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Revit or AutoCAD experience a plus.
  • Structural steel estimating experience a plus
  • Industrial estimating experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of MCAA Manuals and Labor Tables and how they apply to estimating.
  • Be constantly curious.

The pay range for this position is $68,310-$114,500 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
