Job Description:

Directs, coordinates and controls overall operations in the hospital pharmacy in accordance with accepted hospital policies and procedures, ethical and professional practices, and state and federal requirements. Directs and coordinates the integration of department functions with other aspects of overall patient care.

Directs and controls the purchase and inventory maintenance of all pharmaceuticals and related substances and supplies to maintain an adequate drug supply for the needs of the institution. Prepares the annual budget for the Pharmacy department, reviews the budget performance of the department; identifies and analyzes variances. Prepares and manages the budget reflecting the organization/team goals. Defines, analyzes, and implements the most efficient workflow utilizing PI principles. Selects appropriate equipment and is responsible for maintaining all equipment in optimal working conditions. Analyzes staffing needs and provides adequate team members to provide safe and high-quality service.

Assuring the safe and accurate preparing and dispensing of drugs and chemicals; for safe and accurate compounding of sterile products according to USP 797 standards Oversees the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items and ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations. Maintaining those records as required by state and federal law and as necessary to maintain adequate control and accountability of all drugs. Assuring the monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of patient services provided by the department.

Performing a systematic review of all departmental policies and procedures at least once per year. Ensuring the acceptable competency of all staff within the department. Maintains department compliance with Joint Commission/CMS requirements. Participate in the development and maintenance of the hospital's drug formulary. Requires and documents participation of pharmacy personnel in relevant educational programs, including orientation of new employees.
