Description

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

General Administration consists of three divisions: Procurement, Professional Services/Contracts and Materials. The purpose of the department is to serve various customers within Metra by soliciting and procuring goods and services required for operations. Additionally, the department operates Metra's four storehouses, maintaining, distributing, and safeguarding the inventories contained within them.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Materials, the Materials Management Coordinator will coordinate all material control and purchasing activities and processes. Recommend and assist the Manager, Materials in formulating and reviewing various operating parameters within the Materials Divisions. Provide oversight and accountability for Metra's Materials Division through the use of a daily "Hot List" and weekly Candidate Requisition Report fulfilling material requirements. Evaluate operational statistics and values through various inventory reports. Maintain daily reports compiled of data from materials activity and purchase order processing. Assist in establishing guidelines for stock and non-stock decisions. Works under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Business Administration, or related degree OR in lieu degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree that equals four (4) years in materials management.
  2. In addition to #1, must have two (2) years of materials management or related experience.
  3. Good knowledge of materials ordering and management procedures.
  4. Good knowledge of purchase order processing.
  5. Good knowledge of inventory reporting.
  6. Working knowledge of purchasing systems.
  7. Good math skills to evaluate operational statistics.
  8. Intermediate skill using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Access.
  9. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Good organizational and analytical skills.
  11. Good customer service skills.
  12. Ability to maintain detailed records and prepare reports.
  13. Ability to assist in establishing inventory guidelines.
  14. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferences:

  1. Experience in ERP systems is preferred.
