Functional area: Health, Safety & Environment

Remuneration: Exempt

The EH&S Site Advisor will be responsible for the RWE Clean Energy (RWECE) EH&S management system implementation; document control; reporting; auditing; business intelligence/data analytics; and management of change process for all EH&S policies and procedures at RWECE. Maintains the EH&S management system pertaining to compliance and strategy for RWECE.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest level of health and safety practices on the assigned site(s); this includes wearing and demonstrating the proper use of essential safety equipment, including a personal fall arrest systems, as well as identifying potential hazards on the job
  • May be responsible to climb wind towers, accessing wind turbines and Technicians in order to perform Health and Safety tasks
  • Pass physical fitness tests required to maintain assigned site functions
  • Lift, carry, and transport essential equipment, tools, and materials to job site
  • Adhere to and represent the Company's values and behaviors as defined by the RWECE philosophy, vision and EH&S policies, reinforcing Management's and individual employee's responsibility for EH&S
  • Implementation of the EH&S management system pertaining to compliance and strategy for RWECE's North America operations, establishing EH&S and company values; drives continuous improvement in EH&S in all operations and functional departments of the company
  • Assists in training and implementation of EH&S policies and procedures for RWECE in North America
  • Maintains, monitors and reports EH&S performance metrics, statistics, records and injury reporting (OSHA 300) using paper and automated record keeping systems for the assigned region
  • On-time reporting, investigation and closure of CAPA for incidents and events using RITAS Case Management system
  • Evaluates and coordinates EH&S plans and programs proposed by contractors and/or subcontractors working at the company's sites, monitoring performance in order to ensure compliance
  • Performs contractor audits as required; performs bi-annual field assessments and daily observations
  • Performs wind/solar/battery operations and maintenance audits, inspections, technical assessments and observations
  • Tracks and verifies closure of site-level corrective actions, reporting all discrepancies requiring additional resources to resolve at the system level
  • Facilitates site EH&S committees and meetings
  • Supports all technologies (wind, battery storage and solar), regions, and RWECE EH&S Manager as required
  • Actively participates in EH&S program reviews and recommends the EH&S management system program objectives and targets
  • Trains site employees in the areas of EH&S concepts, as well as EH&S management systems, monitoring for performance in order to ensure compliance with established EH&S policies, practices and reporting requirements
  • Completes other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • Associates, Bachelor or Masters degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and/or Environmental Science, or related field preferred

  • 1of the 5 years can be satisfied with an Associates degree; 2 with a Bachelors degree; or 4 with a Masters degree from an accredited school

  • Professional certifications preferred

  • 5 years of EH&S experience applicable to operations, maintenance and/or construction of power generation and related facilities, preferably wind

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a leadership role

  • Working knowledge of Federal OSHA, Federal EPA, State OSHA/EPA and labor standards for General and Construction Industries, as well as the general principles of Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene

  • Canada OSH, and specific knowledge of local and state safety and environmental regulations

  • Minimum 2 years' experience managing safety under the ANSI Z10, OSHA VPP, ISO 14000 or OHSAS 18000 protocols (ISO-9000 experience acceptable)

  • Project management experience implementing, auditing, and managing change for ISO 40001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001

  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems, e.g., Oracle, SAP, Maximo, learning management systems, EH&S Information Systems

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships

  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space

  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams

  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables

  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team

  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities

  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds

  • Understands the principles of EH&S and possesses skills in data management, data analysis, interpretation and translation into effective information and sound, cost effective recommendations

  • Knowledge of Federal OSHA, Federal EPA and labor standards for General Industry and Construction and the general principles of Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene

  • Knowledge of local and state safety and environmental regulations

  • Ability to problem-solve, research and interpret RWECE governance and country regulatory requirements, analyze data for trends and implement IT and procedural solutions for simplifying and streamlining the EH&S management system and data reporting requirements

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple requests from management and internal stakeholders

  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations

  • During this task, employee must be able to open/close hatch doors and identify potential safety hazards.

  • Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Must be able to transfer 50 pounds from a thirty-five inch platform to the floor.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50pounds for up to fifteen (15) feet.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50pounds from ground to brow height.

  • Must be able to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds to a 35inch platform.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds with one hand up to 15 feet.

  • Must be able to crouch, kneel, or kneel for up to 5 minutes at a time to perform maintenance tasks in low areas.

  • Must be able to perform fine motor tasks, such as screwing or unscrewing nuts and bolts, while reaching around and over objects.

  • Must be able to balance to:work in closed and small swaying areas on top of and within wind towers, andwalk across small surface areas to access areas within wind turbines.

  • Must be able to military, belly, or back crawl up to 15 feet to access the nose cone area of wind turbines.

  • Must be able to step or climb up onto platform at a height of 35 inches, with or without support.

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California is $89,000 - $133,400. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
