Job Description

MWH Constructors, an industry leader in the heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is currently seeking a Field Engineer to support the construction of a Water Treatment Plant located in Gresham, OR. This project will be the first of its kind in, scheduled to break ground in Summer of 2024 and ultimately supplying 135 million gallons of water a day to the Portland community by Fall of 2027. This position is a great opportunity to be a part of a historic infrastructure and filtration project and see it through the entire project delivery life cycle, from groundbreaking to closeout.

Essential Functions

  • Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees following the company health and safety guidelines and policies.
  • Assist with construction layout, material and equipment procurement, submittal review, manpower scheduling, quantity takeoffs, document controls, material purchases, deliveries and inventory, and project controls.
  • Perform ongoing field and quality inspections; verify all completed work complies with applicable work plans, permits, codes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare and disseminate required documentation records such as materials and equipment submittals, status reports, sketches of work completed, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor.
  • Recognize issues, advise and confer with leadership and project team on matters affecting projects records, documents and deliverable products.
  • Liaise with project team to proactively address documentation issues to promote project success.
  • Refine and improve services in response to changing technological environment and Client expectations.
  • Serve as dedicated communications hub for project staff by maintaining records, assembly and distribution of documents using a variety of tools including Microsoft SharePoint, BlueBeam, CMiC, and others.
  • Support Project Manager in the collection/distribution of data, communications, and coordination of team deliverables.
  • Support project team in presentations/reports to clients.
  • Prepare drawings and sketching's to support construction work, temporary works, work method statements, change orders, estimates, etc.
  • Prepare/facilitate and submit work method statements, ensure requisite approvals and permits are obtained prior to work commencement.
  • Provide in the field support to supervision and craft labor to facilitate the planned and safe execution of construction activities and lead selected activities as required or directed
  • Research and recommend resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors initiate RFI's and follow through to resolution.
  • Layout and provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials.
  • Review incoming correspondence and initiate action on it, review and process subcontractor's pay applications, review of the project schedule, process RFI's and produce weekly and monthly construction progress reports.
  • Assist with review and analyze contractor claims, prepare change orders, and manage claims and change order records.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering or related field; an equivalent combination of time served construction experience, skills and training may also be considered as an equitable qualification.
  • 1-5 years of construction, design and/or field support experience/knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Ability to manage interfaces and communicate effectively with others.
  • Familiarity with Project Management data base systems such as CMiC, P6, Bluebeam, CAD, Expedition, SharePoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with water/wastewater construction.
  • Onsite experience with a self-performing contractor, demonstrating successful performance on projects greater than $10M.
