Job Description

The Cost Accountant supports accounting, reporting systems, and data management to drive accurate and timely data capture of job and manufacturing profitability. Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is searching for an experienced Cost Accountant to join our team in Abilene, TX. This role will support and execute tasks related to a broad base of accounting responsibilities and reporting functions. As this is a small team, the team member in this role may complete or cover numerous duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)

  • Act as accounting lead for physical inventories including reconciliations and audit support. Monitor cycle count program in compliance with established procedures.
  • Develop and prepare cost data and inventory reports to facilitate and in conjunction with general accounting, execute monthly close, cutoff, journal entry preparation, general ledger analysis and reconciliations of inventory sub-ledgers.
  • Analyze cost data and inventory transactions as a basis developing and implementing process changes to improve internal controls and enhance operating efficiencies.
  • Assist in the accurate and timely accounting close and account reconciliations of other balance sheet accounts in support of preparation of financial reports.
  • Assist the financial analysis and planning function in analyzing and determining root cause of cost variations and in support of budget and forecast activities.
  • Monitor internal control processes to meet the control requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Communicate with auditors to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Serve as a resource of technical knowledge about cost data and system of inventory transactions; provide training or guidance to others in or outside of team.
  • Drive consistent and timely processing of work and systems to ensure meeting established metrics/KPIs.
  • Review, investigate and resolve issues; recommend solutions for the larger problems requiring leader involvement.
  • Suggest process/system improvements that will reduce handling and costs.
  • Provide support to other functions within the accounting team as needed.
  • Assist with other projects as needed or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required.
  • Associate's degree with relative experience may be considered.
  • 5+ yrs. experience in broad-based accounting functions.
  • Microsoft Great Plains familiarity is highly desired.
  • Experience in a combination of cost and general ledger accounting, inventory/cycle counting, audits, financial analysis and control processes.
