Description

The Journeyman will provide hands on troubleshooting and technical repairs for all equipment excluding ship-to-shore gantry cranes.

As a professional mechanic in the Ports America organization, you are required to meet a number of common standards of behaviour, accountabilities and outcomes. These include but are not limited to;

  • Ensuring your personal behaviour is consistent with company values and the company code of conduct at all times
  • Comprehensively familiarising yourself with, staying up to date with and ensuring compliance with all Ports America policies.

Manage safety and risk

  • Managing safety and effectively implementing the Ports America's Safety and Environment System within areas under your control.
  • Ensuring all co-worker work safely.
  • Acting on hazards when they are reported, ensuring safety is integrated into daily work processes and implementing all management directed safety programs and action plans.
  • Identifying and managing risk within your area of responsibility and ensuring Ports Americas' interests are protected at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the maintenance and repair of equipment is done in a timely and cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment;
  • Perform the maintenance and repair of all equipment and its supporting equipment and parts (electrical, electronic and mechanical);
  • Ensure that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition, in accordance with planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
  • Ensure that breakdowns are corrected promptly and to make sure that follow-up work is undertaken;
  • Coordinate with shop supervisors for the scheduling of maintenance plan
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and safety gear is used appropriately
  • Ensure Work Orders are filled out accurately and complete in the maintenance management system daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

  • Experienced in all phases of troubleshooting and repair of facility equipment
  • Strong computer skills required. Knowledge of PLC circuitry and circuit board control systems recommended & considered
  • Required to climb and work at heights.
  • Required to be available for weekend & holiday work assignments
  • Required to be available for shift transfers between day & night work schedules
  • Requires excellent problem-solving skills, especially technical problems of a highly complex nature;
  • Requires ability to use computerized software system(s), specifically those designed for maintenance and repair of cargo handling equipment and/or heavy duty equipment
  • Requires good verbal and written communications skills in English
  • Reporting all incidents, hazards and unsafe working conditions or behavior you encounter to your manager. Completing any actions assigned to you from an audit action plan.
  • Complying with all Ports America's health, safety and environmental protection policies and procedures that are relevant to your work.
