Dr. Jorge Gomez-Gutierrez Lab - NextGen Precision Health Building

Job Description

The Dr. Jorge Gomez-Gutierrez lab in the NextGen Precision Health building at the University of Missouri is looking for a qualified Post-doctoral fellowship to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures. This is an academic/research laboratory focusing on microbial-based cancer immunotherapies using recombinant bacteria and viruses. The ideal candidate will have experience in working under hazardous conditions (e.g. recombinant microorganisms or chemicals), microbiology lab technics, especially in gene editing and molecular cloning, experimental procedures in mice (e.g. tumor implantation, intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal injections, etc.) and flow cytometer.

Position Responsibilities
* Design and construct plasmids DNA to generate recombinant bacterium.
* Manage compliance with regulatory standards and maintain accurate record-keeping of research activities and contribute to writing of protocol documents.
* Systematically collect and document data from research studies.
* Conduct statistical analyses, process imaging data, and handle research informatics tasks.
* Collaborate with fellow lab members on probiotic bacterium research projects, encompassing both experimental work and data analysis.
* Provide mentorship and training to junior lab members.
* Engage in scholarly pursuits, including writing manuscripts for publication and drafting proposals for research funding.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have a M.D. or PhD. degree by start of the appointment.

Candidate will be evaluated on:

* In depth knowledge of microbiology technics, DNA and RNA manipulation, handling and manipulating mice (s.c., i.v., i.p. injections), and flow cytometry.
* Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems.
* Experience on scientific writing
* Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
* Degree in biology, chemistry, or relevant field.
