The Origination Analyst is responsible for the preparation of customer marketing materials and proposals, organizational and transactional support, and related analysis and research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with a few team members whose primary focus is offering solar, wind, and energy storage to customers through products such as traditional PPAs and VPPAs in the Mountain West and Central US regions and through AES's Build-/Develop-Transfer Solutions nationwide. The position will also have exposure to the broader origination team as well as the overall commercial and development teams within AES's clean energy business and will provide a motivated candidate the opportunity to grow their skills and experience, including gaining energy market knowledge and eventual transactional experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the sourcing, negotiation, and execution of long-term power sale agreements and/or asset sale agreements with customers to facilitate the development of renewable assets, energy storage, while meeting customers' needs for sustainability and carbon-free goals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams across other Commercial functions, Development, Finance, Engineering, and other departments to prepare proposals and support transactions.
  • Prepare presentations and memos for both external and internal audiences, including using PowerPoint and Word.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on status of the team's customer outreach efforts, including using Excel and Salesforce.
  • Analyze market pricing trends and develop expertise in PPA pricing in assigned markets, generating periodic reports and presenting to regional team(s) to support assessment of project competitiveness.
  • Capture and share up-to-date market intel and customer research to stay on top of trends, especially regarding information that is relevant to customer conversations.
  • Support the development of uniform and consistent deal processes across the business.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical, Earth, or Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, and/or Mathematics, or equivalent preferred.
  • 0-2 years full time work experience; relevant internship experience preferred for candidates without full time experience.
  • Knowledge of US energy markets preferred.
  • Understanding of renewable generation technology including solar, battery storage, and wind preferred.
  • Solid commercial attitude and agility to balance customer and business needs.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with high level attention to detail and ability to generate a polished and professional work product that is ready for presentation to customers or AES senior leadership.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Solid Microsoft Office 365 knowledge including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams. Proven Excel and PowerPoint intermediate experience and/or training preferred.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM.
