Job Description

The Registered Nurse-Post Op provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. This position manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and other professionals in the facility. This position is responsible for the assessment, care coordination, and implementation of the post-operative care plan of the patient according to prescribed procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Develops, discusses and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
  • Responsible for the education post operatively. Utilizes post-surgical care knowledge to prepare the patient for the next level of care.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Preprocedural & Post Procedural Division as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Maintains supplies/inventory for department.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Associates Degree Nursing or Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required.

Minimum Work Experience

  • 2 years Acute care experience or 1-3 years Critical care experience Required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required.
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 90 Days Required.
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) within 90 Days Required.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
