Examples of Duties

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the planning, design, installation, management and maintenance of various systems in support of the organization's computer users, including endpoints (desktops, laptops, tablets and other end-user primary computing devices), physical and virtualized server infrastructure, printers, print servers, and other connected peripherals.
  • Maintains the Commission's server infrastructure; this includes server and hardware lifecycle management, reviewing performance logs and monitoring system performance, as well as supporting the overall security posture of the Commission's server infrastructure employing cybersecurity best practices as well as supporting the organization's efforts in compliance with PCI-DSS and NIST CSF.
  • Responsible for the planning, design, management and maintenance of computer images, Active Directory (AD) environment and Group Policy Objects (GPO), as well as maintaining user accounts and permissions across other systems including but not limited to Microsoft 365.
  • Assists with escalated helpdesk requests as needed and provides backup support for tier 1 and tier 2 helpdesk requests when required, including hardware and software installation and troubleshooting. Creates and maintains accurate and timely system documentation.
  • Assists with operational needs including vendor management, fixed asset management, inventory management and disposals, researching and recommending solutions to technology needs, as well as supporting aspects of the access control and video management systems.
  • Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Networking Team Lead, Technology Manger or Chief Information Officer.

Major Work Characteristics:
  • Working knowledge of various software systems in a Microsoft Environment (Microsoft Windows Server Operating System(s), Microsoft Windows Operating System, Microsoft Group Policy, Microsoft 365.).
  • Experience with computer and server imaging best practices and techniques, familiarity with SCCM is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with VMware virtualized server environments and Veeam Backup and Replication.
  • Ability to train and assist staff in using hardware and software efficiently.
  • Possesses knowledge of information technology best practices and methodologies to successfully maintain a robust and resilient IT infrastructure.
  • Author and effectively communicate necessary system documentation including technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and work aids as needed.
  • Comprehend a variety of technical material including server infrastructure, end user device support (PCs, printers, audio/video equipment, related peripherals), telecommunications infrastructure, access controls, video surveillance systems, structured cabling, software development and software deployment.
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with a wide diversity of individuals in a variety of circumstances.
  • Maintain exemplary communication skills both verbally and in writing on complex technical and non-technical matters.
  • Assists with and participates in project activities as directed by the project manager.
  • Adapt quickly to changes in priority; prioritize tasks without direct supervision.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and attentive to detail.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of data and information.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the information technology field.
  • Three (3) years' experience in information technology system administration.
  • Experience with PC imaging and virtualized server environments.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required.
Supplemental Information

Unusual Working Conditions:

  • Employee will be required to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days per week on a rotating schedule.
  • Work involves both sitting for prolonged periods of time and work in the field at Ohio Turnpike facilities.
