Summary
The Instructional Lead holds the primary responsibility for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of an Excel Center's instructional delivery. He/she will provide instructional leadership to teachers, coaches, and administrative support staff at The Excel Center. The Instructional Lead will work effectively across the organization to make certain that students are supported in a way that ensures success both academically and in alignment with postsecondary goals. Essential functions of the Instructional Lead include supervision and development of instructional staff, in-depth analysis of learning outcomes, and identification of internal and external academic support for all students. The Instructional Lead will lead the instructional team in working collaboratively with the Academic Success Coaching Team to remove academic and personal barriers to meet educational objectives in alignment with SC Academic Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve education and career outcomes for all Excel Center students.
  • Participate in the development of overall educational strategies for the Excel Center, including but not limited to the design and implementation of systems to assess student outcomes.
  • Develop course curriculum maps that align with state standards.
  • Interview and onboard new instructors to the Palmetto Excel Center model.
  • Train and update instructional staff on course sequence, curricular systems, and key instructional issues.
  • Help teachers develop instructional strategies and intervention plans that support growth and increase achievement among struggling students.
  • Observe and coach instructors through routine evaluation feedback cycles.
  • Collect, and engage staff in utilizing student assessment data to analyze and address gaps in instructional practices.
  • Ensure access to and participation in high-quality internal and external professional development for instructional staff.
  • Lead internal professional development sessions based on needs determined by teacher evaluations and schoolwide data.
  • Teach one to three core classes to model instructional excellence for staff.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to link ancillary academic services to students.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to provide wrap-around support to students, as necessary.
  • Work in collaboration with the Leadership Team to develop the master schedule.
  • Address complaints between students and teachers
  • Report updates from the Instructional Team at weekly Leadership Team Meetings
  • Assist with new student orientation.
  • Collaborate with the recruitment and enrollment team around student outreach and communication.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned regarding administration, planning, and coordinating.

Qualifications

  • Two plus (2+) years working in classrooms and coaching teachers, preferably with high need students.
  • Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data for informed decision making.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate direct feedback in a compelling way that empowers teachers to make immediate improvements to instruction.
  • Ability to work well in a team; ability to bridge and enhance professional learning communities.
  • Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
  • Effective presentation skills accompanied by inspiring stage presence.
  • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Office 365: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and the Internet
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in subject specialist required with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, 3-5 years preferred.
  • SC Teaching Certificate, eligible.
  • Current SC Secondary School Principal & Supervisor Certification preferred but not required.


Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

The work is normally performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
