Scope of Position

The Surgical Technologist - functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect. The Surgical Technologist Lead works as a primary resource integral to the operations within a service line. The team, consisting of the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC-RN), Anesthesia Technician (AT) and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward successful achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patients involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focus care through the integrated skills of all care team members.

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist Lead works under the direction of the Manager of the operating room in collaboration with the PCC-RN. Surgical Technologist Lead is responsible for assisting with education, orientation, process improvement, product evaluation, onboarding of new physicians, instrument and equipment management, and Preference card management related to their service area, Surgical Technologist lead provides for safety/security of self and others and follows all special precautions as related to patient care. They maintain a clean/organized perioperative unit. Surgical Technologist lead promotes a positive attitude to staff, families, and patient/guests as well as maintains patient confidentiality. Surgical Technologist lead performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, and upholds goals and objectives of the Department of Perioperative Services. Surgical Technologist lead contributes to organizational effectiveness and demonstrates career growth and development. Surgical Technologist lead works variable rotating shifts as assigned. Call is assigned on a rotating basis.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: H.S. Diploma, Certification, and at least 2 years of related experience required.

On going: Demonstrated competency to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols.
