Data Axle provides data, applications, and services that help organizations make and save money. Our commitment to accuracy, service and innovation drive customer acquisition, retention, and product enhancement. We are currently seeking a Copywriter, Direct Mail.

This position is responsible for writing, editing and proofreading letter copy for use in direct mail programs, as well as ancillary email communications, brochures, websites, etc. Familiarity with concepts of direct mail, particularly as it relates to non-profit work, is highly beneficial. A strong marketing and/or journalism background will be very useful. A flexible mindset and the ability to pivot between different types of accounts will be a major asset.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Write copy focused on the needs and objectives of specific direct-mail appeals.
  2. Be an integral part of many projects and have very strong communication skills with internal team members, as well as external clients to complete work.

3 Timely completion of projects, some with tight turnarounds.

  1. Have a strong connection to the branding of specific accounts, as well as their unique voice, mission and approach when it comes to writing fundraising appeals.
  2. Be able to multi-task; working on many types of projects during a given day.
  3. Keep an open mind as to the different needs and priorities of individual account managers and clients. Have patience with those who are often dealing with other issues simultaneously.
  4. Be able to keep track of work in project management systems like Trello, Asana, Wrike or Hive.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels in the company and with various business contacts outside of the company in an articulate, professional manner.
  2. Outstanding writing, editing, proofreading, grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
  3. Proactive, creative individual who is passionate about writing.
  4. Ability to anticipate and react quickly in a dynamic business environment.
  5. Experience writing for marketing, direct response or nonprofit programs.
  6. Must be a team player with great communication skills.
  7. Must be able to multi-task to meet strict deadlines.
  8. Ability to use Microsoft computer programs such as Office, Outlook and Teams. Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and project management systems is a plus.

Education, Experience, and Certification:

  1. 5+ years experience in direct response, marketing or creative copywriting required.*
  2. Experience in copywriting for long- and short-form direct mail is highly beneficial.
