Office of General Counsel

Job Description

Performs a broad range of routine legal and business support services for the Office of the General Counsel. Duties may include aspects of litigation, legal and/or factual research and analysis, drafting of legal documentation, drafting various standard documents and correspondence, managing documents and electronic information in legal projects (including large data volume projects), assisting attorneys in reviewing contracts and other business documents for legal and policy compliance, managing review processes to ensure timely and effective project and task completion, and legal operations and business support. Requires legal, policy, and operational knowledge, creativity in problem solving and minimal independent judgment.

  • Performs routine assignments using existing procedures
  • Explains policies and procedures to advise and assist others
  • Solves routine problems and provides solutions, recommendations, etc.
  • Assists with researching and analyzing legal information and uses standard practices to make informed judgments and recommendations when preparing or reviewing legal documentation
  • Analyzes potential solutions using experience and precedence, providing input and recommendations to supervising attorneys and paralegals
  • Uses judgment to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve routine business and compliance issues and problems
  • Handles routine issues under the direction of a supervising attorney
  • Assists legal team with various legal matters, contracts, loan recovery, business document reviews, research, and/or litigation management
  • Impacts the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of own team (e.g., reviews work and recommends legal improvements) workflows, productivity, etc.
  • Manages assigned work and projects to meet legally required and project-specific deadlines
  • Exchanges information, asks questions, and checks for audience understanding


Develops working relationships with various internal parties and may work with outside counsel and other external parties, as needed with routine tasks.

Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • At least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is preferred.
  • Proficiency in standard business and legal office application systems/software, along with ability to develop specialized expertise with applications and serve as a resource for other team members.
  • Currently meets qualifications set out for a Legal Assistant by the National Associate of Legal Assistants or will meet those qualifications within one year of hire.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,000 - $85,000 per year
Grade: GGS-010
