Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for managing staff and the real-time operation of the Distribution Operations Center (DOC) to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Company's electric and gas distribution systems.

Essential Functions: (As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, these include the following responsibilities, minimum job knowledge, skills, and abilities. This is not necessarily an all-inclusive listing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises the daily activities of the Distribution Systems Operations Supervisors and Distribution Operations Technicians (DOTs) assigned to real-time operations.
  • Ensures safety is the number one priority as real-time operations are being completed daily.
  • Ensures proper communication is followed within the DOC and with other departments during emergency and/or storm-restoration events.
  • Coordinates daily operations with the Switching and Technology Supervisor.
  • Ensures field personnel callouts are completed in accordance with the various departmental policies (i. e., ARCOS).
  • Develops and maintains the DOC and DOT shift schedules to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Identifies career enhancement opportunities for staff in conjunction with the manager.
  • Develops and conducts quarterly check-in conversations with assigned staff that align with those opportunities.
  • Keeps department procedures related to real-time operations up-to-date.
  • Ensures timely and accurate updates to the MGE Emergency Log.
  • Is available for coverage during system emergencies and shares on-call responsibilities with other management personnel.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours when needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all labor agreement provisions related to the DOTs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Three or more years of experience in any of the following departments: Distribution Systems Operations, Engineering, ECO, M&C, or GO leadership.
  • Ability to pass DOC Real-Time Desk Qualifications within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge of methods and practices involved in constructing, operating, maintaining, and repairing electric and gas systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others across all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of emergency and security policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to identify/articulate key points of technical information considering recipient's needs when speaking or writing.
  • Proven knowledge and application of excellent customer service skills for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt to new technology and trends in the daily operation of the electric and gas systems.

JOB LOCATION

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
