Job Description

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
  • Clinical experience preferred.
  • Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) credential preferred.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates and provides individualized patient care with the storage, preparation, and packaging of breast milk and formulas in the Infant Nourishment Room.
  • Documents all relevant aspects of nutritional care for patients in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Generates labels, measures milk/formula, calculates additives and fills feeding orders for 24 hour period, according to physician order.
  • Adheres to all sanitary regulations and standards per policy. Responsible for safe and effective operation of equipment needed to prepare infant milk mixtures.
  • Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
  • Communicates effectively with other care providers to provide continuity of patient care and to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste,(of time and supplies) and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
  • Responds to management, nursing, and patient requests appropriately.
  • Attends in-service educations and other required hospital training as directed.
  • Accurately maintains all documentation for the Infant Nourishment Room i.e. temperature logs, expired products, etc.
  • Completes additional duties potentially including data collection, HealthTouch operations, patient satisfaction initiatives (i.e. patient rounds, test trays, etc), and assisting registered dietitians.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires heavy physical effort (must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds).
  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of the Vice President for Human Resources Administration, or his/her designee.
