The ESS Engineering Summer Academy is seeking to fill positions for its 2024 summer camps (June & July) at the UNM School of Engineering. In this program, high school students are invited to campus to participate in STEM activities and educational experiences in engineering and computer science fields. Each week is themed with a different STEM topic and includes field trips and a variety of hands-on activities. We are seeking to hire a separate instructor for the following topics: Sensors, CAD, Arduinos, Robotics.

The Academic Assistant will serve to provide support as a team member with the following responsibilities:

• Assist the Summer Program Coordinator in facilitating an instructional component of the program;
• Plan and develop: teaching aids, presentations and hands-on activities;
• Assist in ensuring proper student conduct in the classroom and during all activities;
• Provide guidance and assistance with activities, projects, and other assigned duties;
• Prepare and maintain all materials for instruction;
• Serve as a mentor for students;
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Equivalencies not found for this position

• Current engineering or computer science major.
• Knowledge of college-level academic environments and procedures.
• Strong organizational, coordination, and communication skills.
• Experience in laboratory setting(s) at a university.
• Prior instruction and/or assistance with summer research experiences in STEM fields.
• Pass mandatory background check.
