Job/Internship Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Detail Intern is responsible for completing detail drawing for designs of varying complexity; this may also include checking others work. They will work closely with the Mechanical Designer and other engineering support personnel to ensure that our due dates are met. They will be expected to meet with employees from various other departments to review designs to ensure that all of the necessary information is provided to build the product as designed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete mechanical detailing of transformers including internal and external components and accessories based on documentation provided in project design folder, standard practices, and/or from technical advisors.
  • Provide technical support and training of others.
  • Assist the supervisor as need to ensure that detailing is complete by the due dates.
  • Responsible for directing or executing corrective action when shop problems are encountered. Consult with shop and QA personnel on interferences or interpretation of engineering information.
  • Assist on development projects as requested by supervisor. This may also include completion of standard processes or practices.
  • Recommend and develop new procedures to improve the efficiency of the detailing process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of 3D software
  • Excellent process and problem solving skills
  • An understanding of drafting procedures
  • An excellent team player with strong people skills; ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal (logical and organized), written, listening and presentation
  • Computer skills: highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ProE

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Currently pursuing Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Drafting and Design or related field
  • Proven ability to perform assignments under minimal supervision, with assistance as required for design questions or technical problem.
