HED | IDEAS - Level 1 Practice Technology Intern

Office Location(s): Detroit and Los Angeles

HED | IDEAS (Intern Development for Engineering and Architecture Students) is a program that gives aspiring A/E professionals real-world work experiences that introduces them to the many diverse components of an A/E firm. The experience intendeds to complement and not replicate their academic experience.

Practice Technology Interns provide junior level support to each of HED's ten market sectors. Project work will focus on the technology, tools, platforms, and critical behind-the-scenes tasks that the Practice Technology team performs to support the HED Design Process. Interns also attend a series of workshops that provide introductions to the intricacies of project management, business development and marketing, all crucial to the successful operations of an A/E firm.

This is a full-time position over the summer months with an opportunity for part time employment (16-20 hours per week) during the academic year.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Perform design technology duties as directed by the Corporate Practice Technology Leader.

  • Support the Practice Technology team in the development of process & documentation.

  • Support project teams in the utilization of Practice Technology platforms on assigned projects.

  • Develop components that meet the corporate standards to be placed in the corporate library.

  • Assist in Practice Technology project reviews.

  • Learn Practice Technology workflows, platforms, and techniques.

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • One year of enrollment in an accredited post-secondary degree program.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills.

  • Computer literacy, including Revit platform knowledge.

  • Experience with Rhino & Grasshopper preferred.

  • Experience with Unreal Engine preferred.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

  • Very meticulous, initiative-taking, enthusiastic, and flexible

  • Eagerness to learn Practice Technology workflows, platforms, and techniques.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project, and construction meetings.

  • Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation, and evaluation purposes.

  • Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes.

  • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
