Job Description

Broadwind Heavy Fabrications Thinks BIG about our quality team in Abilene, TX. We are currently looking for a Quality Supervisor to join our team in upholding quality initiatives by monitoring manufacturing processes, enhancing production flow and ensuring on-time delivery. This is a hands-on position that requires a balance of supervisory responsibility and interaction on the plant floor with production supervisors, team leads, welders and production employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)

  • Lead/direct the daily assignments and duties of the Quality Department
    • Organize resources and schedule personnel to meet production requirements and ensure the schedule is managed on a daily basis.
    • Lead, guide, and train employees on policies, procedures, quality related matters, and company objectives.
    • Instruct employees as needed in the performance of their job to meet Company standards.
    • Review of employee time and attendance cards/reports to ensure correct reporting.
    • Investigate any discrepancies in quality related or employee related issues.
    • Control labor force, reallocate as needed; promote efficient use of labor and material as workflow dictates.
  • Act as a cross-functional liaison between the Quality management team and the production management team to coordinate activities concerning production and quality issues between shifts and individual departments.
  • Assist with the implantation of effective quality audits, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrate proper operation of tools, instruments, equipment, and work aids used in performing quality related tasks.
  • Assist with facilitation of orientation, supervision, and training of employees, to include organizing, planning, and controlling the placement of resources when needed to support production schedule.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Ability to enforce and follow established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infectious control standards.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance.
  • Follow and enforce all Company safety policies, housekeeping requirements, and rules of conduct.
  • Assist other supervisors and managers with projects as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Although this is primarily a day shift role, this Supervisor must be available to work hours in the evenings and weekends to coordinate Quality activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

  • Associate degree in quality, manufacturing or a management related field required; may consider a technical certification with additional years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree desired
  • Minimum of 3 yrs. experience in a heavy manufacturing, metal fabrication, welding and/or assembly environment required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in supervising/leading technical personnel and complex activities
  • Possession of any of the following certifications or specialized knowledge is desirable - ASQ/CQM, CQT, NACE, NDT, AWS, Six Sigma or lean tools.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance required.

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate (both in writing and verbally) to all levels of the company and with external customers.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret various forms of data and charts (line, bar, Pareto, etc.)
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of records, information and any other employee related confidential matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts and become a resource that adds value.
  • Effective employee coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor activities and drive results.
