Product Strategy Manager Job Description

Air Product Membranes Solutions has the most diverse product portfolio in the current membrane market. Within the global landscape, understanding the competitive position, market dynamics and decision-making basis for customers is critical for the key market segments. The Product Strategy group is a newly created team that will collaborate across the global organization to develop and realize the strategic vision for the Membrane Solutions products. This role will lead a team that will develop and execute against the short and long-range product roadmap in partnership with the sales, marketing, internal & external business development, process engineers, operations, and technology organizations. The Product Strategy Manager's team will be accountable for the development of the product strategy ensuring the appropriate tactical mix, while balancing return on investment and impact to product.

Product Strategy Manager Roles and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Product Strategy Manager within our Membranes Solutions team located in Allentown, PA. This position requires 20-25% domestic / global travel.

DIMENSIONS:

  • Position will report to the GM and lead a global team of 3-5 individual contributors.
  • Lead a team of Product Managers who development of the product strategic roadmaps and translation of strategy into tactical plans.
  • Organization will understand and evaluate the competitive landscape to ensure a high-level of current and future product value and differentiation within the global marketplace.
  • Evaluate strategy and partner with internal business development to assess when to leverage Air Products organization as EPC versus third-party equipment packagers.
  • Support global Commercial (sales and marketing) organization on prospect targeting and help pull-through customer opportunities to realize annual plans.
  • Collaborate with global sales organization to develop short and long-range customer demand and translate and communicate demand to Membrane Solutions operational organization.
  • Partner with marketing organization develop go-to-market messaging and supporting tactical mix, balancing technical-marketing information mix with external audience.
  • Team will create product technology roadmaps, incorporating market insights, competitive intelligence, and voice-of-customer to the planning process.
  • Lead the assessment and development of product pricing strategy and partner with sales organization to realize annual price increases.
  • Technical aptitude required, with market-facing orientation critical to success.
  • Success in this position requires a strong coach and people leader, with ability to delegate, prioritize, and support the development of a new team.
  • Adept at working in a matrixed organization and to collaborate within Membrane Solutions and across Air Products' broader organization.
  • Strong cross-functional influencing skills are critical to the success of this role since the organization works across multiple internal and external functions.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position will be accountable for the following end results:

  • Key tasks include market needs assessment, product roadmap development, relationship management strategy with key global biogas associations and thought leaders, collaboration with Membrane Solutions technology organization to provide inputs and feedback on development and pipeline needs, and supporting the commercial organization on proposal, pricing, and positioning needs to support pull-through with prospects and customers.
  • Realization of annual Product Plans - Revenue, Margin, and Growth Targets
  • Perform and present detailed sales, market, competitor, and product-specific analytics that influence technology roadmaps, strategic plans, and tactical execution.
  • Provides strategic direction to marketing organization and partner to develop go-to-market messaging and print/digital promotional materials.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and yearly unit and dollar sales forecasts for operations partners and senior management.
  • Work closely with team members in marketing, sales, finance, technology, business development, process engineering, operations, and executive management to ensure alignment on global Product strategy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree (BA/BS/BEng) with 10-15 years of experience; Technical degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to use analytical skills and critical thinking to diagnosis business issues and assess marketplace to develop or adjust of Product roadmaps and execution strategy.
  • Proven ability to understand, track, analyze and leverage customer and marketplace insights into building effective strategies and business plans.
  • Experience in establishing and cultivating relationships with key opinion leaders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and able to balance competing internal and external stakeholders and priorities.
  • Exceptional influencing and coaching skills
  • Excellent business/commercial acumen
  • Set clear direction, communicating priorities and delegate to execute objectives.
  • Ability to travel globally - 20-25%
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Good driving record
