Position title: Director of Software Engineering

Reports to: Vice President of Engineering

Department: Research and Development

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven success in managing complex hardware/software projects.
  • Solid understanding of agile development practices and system architecture.
  • Deep understanding of how to develop and release quality software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong desire to grow individuals and see cross-functional teams succeed.
  • Process-oriented with a sense of urgency to meet business objectives.

Education Or Formal Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience with a strong programming background.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software development.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • 3+ years in a director-level position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with IoT & embedded systems-dependent projects.
  • Experience with mobile application development iOS/Android and SAAS software.
  • Experience in Water Monitoring space.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the personnel in In-Situ's Software Organization and partner with our Software Development Technical Director to ensure that our culture, process, and resources efficiently deliver high-quality software and firmware.
  • Manage, coach, and inspire a team of senior resources in their engineering practices and managers in leadership practices.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and User Experience teams to ensure priorities align across products and initiatives and that there is a clear technology roadmap to address product development and reduce technical debt.
  • Create a software development lifecycle focusing on agile development, test automation, & continuous integration.
  • Ensure the development and test processes are in place to meet our product quality and availability goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong relations with directors and executives in other departments.
  • Participating in cross-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with leads from other engineering teams.
  • Empowering the delivery team to self-organize to deliver across our diverse portfolio.
  • Bring new and evolving best practices and tools into the team for continuous improvement.
  • Support various financial, budgeting, audit, and cost justifications. Ensure efficiency in costs related to staff, training, cloud expenses, and various software licenses.
  • Develop work effort, scope estimates, and efficient resource assignment to support multiple projects.
  • Attract and evaluate top software engineers who are passionate about creating value for customers.
  • Vocally advocating for technical excellence and helping the teams make good decisions.


Supervisory Duties:

  • Direct Reports: 4-8

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • General office environment with each day spent at a desk or meeting with cross-functional teams.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and walk.
  • On-site, in-person
  • Travel - less than 25% of the time.

Total Rewards:

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data and internal comps.

Salary Range: $160,000-$210,000 per year. Compensation will also include a short-term and long-term incentive plan, including participating in a generous In-Situ Stock Appreciation Rights Plan.

Additional Compensation: Participation in a Company-sponsored variable compensation plan.
