Simulation Creator/Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Summary:

Simulation Creator / Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for combining the information from the Operational Environment (OE) Writer and the MESL manager into a defined, exportable simulation architecture that will facilitate a detailed and realistic representation of tactical maneuvers across a replicated battlefield. The SME will depict major events across the conflict continuum with enough detail to inform simulations (primarily DXTRS), to include the Task Organization and MTOEs of the Green and Red Forces. The SME will operate within an Army architecture and maintain the simulation and its transmission to the Mission Training Center (MTC). They will be available during simulation-supported exercise execution in order to troubleshoot problems and challenges. When there is no simulation training event to prepare for/execute, the Simulation SME provides day to day support on tasks such as developing orders (battalion through division), scenario design, role player integration, AARs, etc. The Simulation SME will participate in training development meetings, in-process reviews, working groups, etc. as directed by the Project Manager.

Specific responsibilities include, researching unit MTOEs, building excel spreadsheets/databases of units that will be represented in the given simulation-supported exercise, and coordination with MTCs. Other duties include but are not limited to: attend unit coordination meetings, brief unit leadership as necessary, assist unit cadre, and assistance to the MTC during simulation execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Research current Army and applicable foreign MTOEs and adjust as necessary to represent foreign military forces
  • Work with the MTC to build a database to replicate scenario forces
  • Assist Scenario Development with production/creation of scenario products
  • Brief leadership on the status of simulations and timelines for development of databases for such
  • During exercises, provide feedback to TAFF and AAR Facilitator
  • Capture simulation products for use in hotwashes, AARs and take-home packages
  • Participate in scenario rehearsals with Role Players (RPs) and RP Managers (RPMs) prior to mission execution
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • SECRET Clearance
  • Effective multi-tasking skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a dynamic environment
  • Willing to travel up to 40% of the time (CONUS)
  • Proficient in simulations, particularly DXTRS
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Word/PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable engaging senior US military personnel
  • Must maintain current driver's license
  • At least two (2) years of military or civilian simulation experience commensurate with management of all aspects of this position description.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution
  • Extensive knowledge of Army Doctrine (Brigade level and below); experience on a battalion or brigade level staff
  • Completion of ILE/CGSC/SLC
  • Familiar with the mission of the 3-353rd BN
  • Recent deployment experience
  • Transition Team Experience (Europe, Middle East, North Africa)
