Job Summary:
Seeking a highly motivated, customer focused, and degreed engineer with dynamic rotating shaft seal knowledge and previous AE experience with customers. The Application Engineer will build strong Customer relationships and diligently drive new opportunities to aggressively grow the SKF North American Industrial Seals Business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operates as the main technical liaison between the Customer and SKF Industrial Seal Resources.
  • Passionately drives New Industrial business growth both internally and externally in cooperation with the Customer, Sales, Business Development, and Engineering.
  • Collaborates with Customer Engineers with and without sales as necessary to build relationships, utilize influence, discover opportunity, provide assistance and recommendations for new applications, overcome obstacles, and drive robust SKF Sealing Solutions
  • Communicates regularly between Customer, engineering, sales, business development, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality on current projects.
  • Procures and provides key information necessary for product design and product development to create optimized designs and mitigate risk for the Customer and for SKF
  • Creates Tech Responses and Presents Technical Reviews for Customers.
  • Provides technical assistance to customers for various applications in order problem solve and mitigate sealing system challenges.
  • Collaborates with Product Development to ensure that new development projects will meet / exceed future customer expectations.
  • Manages customer testing programs to meet customer specifications for getting new products approved by the customer.
  • Provides necessary support documentation to the customer.
  • Drives / Innovates for new or improved products and their applications.
  • Utilizes influence, experience, personal contacts, and professional reputation to satisfy the customer and alert the SKF team to new SKF growth opportunities / competitive threats / needs for benchmarking and testing.
  • Organizes/Presents at customer tech days to create growth opportunities.
  • Trains the Customer in Seals Technology and Products.
  • Works directly with the Customers and internal departments on field returns / warranty concerns / quality concerns.

Job Education, Knowledge, and Requirements:

  • 4 years Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of dynamic seal design and testing with specialized customer application engineering seal experience.
  • Minimum of 2 year's experience as Seals AE.
  • Demonstrates initiative and creative ability.
  • Must be able to translate design theory into practical application and follow project through successful completion including coordinating of efforts internally and with the customer.
  • Exercises good discretionary decision making in line with corporate policy when dealing with customers or professional groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to influence others.
  • Exhibit good presentation skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engineering specifications, seal specifications, DVPR.
  • Tech Responses, Test Procedures, Validation Reports, customer correspondence, PDS (Product Data Sheets), Sample Orders, Tech Reviews.
  • Technical contacts, purchasing, quality, managers.
  • New products and plans, customer drawings, pending patents, development programs.
  • Gives direction / input to product engineers, test lab engineers, material and product development groups, sales, quality, and manufacturing.
  • Receives guidance in line with corporate objectives.
