THE POSITION

Washington County's Department of Facilities, Fleet, and Parks is looking for a Journey Plumber to join the Operations Team in creating safe, welcoming, and comfortable public spaces to serve the diverse staff, citizens, and visitors of Washington County. The Facilities Division takes great pride in the planning, construction, maintenance, and repair of nearly 45 County-owned buildings (over 1.8 million square feet), grounds, parks, and associated hardscape.

The Journey Plumber will be committed to contributing to an inclusive and safe space for everyone within and interacting with the Facilities, Fleet, & Parks Department. They perform skilled, journey-level work installing, maintaining, and repairing sewer, water, and other plumbing systems. They will perform routine plumbing systems maintenance, diagnostics and problem solving, repair, and replacement tasks, as well as working on small and large projects. This position works closely with other mechanical trades.

Ideal Candidate Profile: An energetic plumbing professional with a passion for public service, an eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to multi-task and adapt to reactive and emergency situations, demonstrate good communication skills, and have consistent attendance. They are a team player and are able to shift priorities to respond to urgent work requests with pride, professionalism, and a positive demeanor. They also have:

  • applicable experience in a wide range of commercial and industrial plumbing systems;
  • knowledge and experience in preventative maintenance, repair, and operation of many different types of plumbing and hydronic systems including commercial and industrial potable and non-potable water systems, sanitary, storm, well, and hydronic heating, chilled, and steam systems;
  • experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, and problem solving practices as it relates to water and fluid systems found in large commercial buildings; and
  • basic computer skills to allow efficient navigation of email, computerized maintenance management system software, virtual meeting applications (Teams, Zoom), and other general forms of computer operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent AND Five (5) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing sewer, water, and other plumbing systems in a commercial and/or industrial environment.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy. To review the Driver's License and Record Policy for Washington County: Driver's License & Records Policy (Vehicles - Section 800).
  • Possession of a current Oregon State Journey Plumber's License or have a Journey license from a reciprocal state by which an Oregon Journey Plumbing license can be readily acquired.
  • This position is required to pass an extensive criminal background check.
