We are seeking to hire a talented Systems Engineer to join our team. Systems Engineers are the key to our success. Together with Project Managers, they hold ultimate accountability for project delivery. For a given project they will be the engineering authority. For that project, they will be technical managers and architects, guiding development. Systems Engineers (SEs) will partner with Project Managers, System Test Engineers (STEs), hardware engineers, software engineers and other functions, to execute Safety, Security, Quality, Delivery and Cost (S2QDC) at the project level.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage product requirements and architectural definition with 100% traceability from project initiation to customer implementation.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews and drive architectural decisions and document accordingly (plan of record, decision log, etc.). Perform, review, and facilitate trade studies with team to select design solutions among options. Drive quantitative data-driven decision making within the team.
  • Implement design controls, effective use of the V-model framework, and comprehensive verification and validation testing of products.
  • Manage project technical risk. Identify and assess potential risks and propose effective mitigation actions. Utilize DFMEA, DOE, test data, etc. to support quantitative data-driven technical assessments.
  • Hold regular cross-functional technical meetings with stakeholders to review development status, maintain alignment between functions, and to escalate technical issues and risks with urgency.
  • Provide detailed review of technical information including specifications, test results, user manuals, and safety and compliance certification documentation. Support the creation of technical training materials for end-users.
  • Maintain strong contact with Omron's Technical Sales support team, System Integrators, and Customers through periodic site visits.
  • Perform tasks making use of such collaboration tools as Jira, Confluence, JAMA, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, SW Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering role involving development of robotics products and/or automation applications, including 2 projects covering full development life cycle (from ideation to delivery).
  • Proven expertise in robotics and/or automation, software development, hardware integration, and electromechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong leader with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to enable data-driven decisions.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Proven ability to direct small teams (e.g., Systems Test Engineers, Technicians).
  • Experience with Functional safety and compliance analysis and testing.
  • Ability to travel within US and internationally (15%).
  • Project Management skills with experience in both Agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Proficient user of Atlassian Confluence/JIRA/JSM, JAMA, and TestRail.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML. (preferred)

The annual salary range for this role in California is $130,000 - $170,000 a year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus program. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
