About the Role

This Senior Engineer, DSP will be responsible for the research and development of state-of-the-art ANC algorithms for vehicles. You will work on understanding the current ANC algorithms and creating new innovative concepts. You will be responsible for developing new DSP software and validating new concepts. In addition, you will work with the productization team to support the development of embedded software.


What You Will Do

  • Develop, modify, and integrate active noise cancellation (ANC) DSP algorithms in the automotive environment based on the latest publications in active noise control research

  • Utilize rapid prototyping systems to create quick turn demonstrations and evaluate innovative concepts

  • Oversee the implementation, testing, and evaluation of algorithms within an acoustic environment

  • Collaborate across the team to act as a mentor and influencer

  • Draft innovation disclosure reports and assist Patent Attorneys with patent applications

What You Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and 8 years overall experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience

  • OR PhD in Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience with advanced algorithm research

  • Knowledge of high-level programming languages such as MATLAB/Simulink

  • Experience using problem-solving methodologies to perform root cause analysis of complex systems

  • Knowledge of audio algorithms (noise cancellation, synthesis techniques, effects), audio systems, and acoustic principles

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience with VST plugins and hosts

  • Experience developing embedded systems for consumer, automotive, or military products

  • Experience with modern software development processes (AGILE) and tools like JIRA, GIT, DOORS

  • Experience in the automotive industry, especially regarding communication protocols (e.g., CAN, A2B)

  • Experience with AI/ML tools and techniques

  • Be willing to work in an office in Novi, MI (hybrid)

  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment*

  • This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN's sole discretion, no more than four (4) active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years
