IT Applications Manager

Job Description Summary

To ensure the management of our critical engineering applications and support our mission of "providing value to the business securely", we are seeking an experienced leader in IT Applications Management that has worked for (or with) large global manufacturing organizations. This position will report to the IT Applications Director and support the people, process and technology enhancements required for successful applications management within the operations environment.

Job Description

The Applications Manager will be responsible in assisting businesses to achieve success, with responsibility for researching and acquiring the software applications required to propel growth forward. They will lead the teams that configure, monitor, and maintain these tools as needed. The role requires a collaborative approach with applications and engineering teams to protect operational technology, and understand the requirements of the business to provide automations to increase business efficiency with the importance of resilience and the facilitation of digital transformation. Furthermore, they are responsible for managing financial budgets associated with the licensing of these applications and day-to-day operations, all while supervising server/hardware upgrades and reporting success to top management and stakeholders. Since the applications are related to the Engineering and Manufacturing space the Application Manager will be responsible to understand the unique business processes and customizations related to our Enterprise applications to be able to lead the teams that support these applications. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining the IT Engineering Application Portfolio and ensuring that we enforce a well governed process around application portfolio management.

In order to be successful in this role, the Applications Manager must have excellent project management skills, be highly organized and efficient, and possess a deep understanding of the software development cycle. They must also be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical staff, as well as external vendors. With these skills, the Application Manager can help ensure that an organization's software needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Applications Manager will be responsible for:

  • Researching, procuring and managing software applications that will contribute to the success of the company
  • Installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining those applications as and where necessary
  • Understanding the requirements of the business to provide automations to increase business efficiencies with emphasis on digital transformation
  • Establishing protocols for software applications and ensuring their ease of use for others
  • Overseeing upgrades for servers, hardware, and software
  • Manage the licensing for these applications
  • Working with multiple business systems and managing application integrations
  • Reporting on progress of operational issues to senior management, end users and stakeholders
  • Managing financial budgets for both specific projects and day-to-day running of specific IT applications
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Education

  • 10+ years of experience working in a global, engineering space with responsibility for the planning & management of activities relating to CAD, CAM, CAE and ECS (Electronics and Controls Systems) applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering, or related degree
  • Strong understanding of application management and software development lifecycle.
  • Strong Project management experience with waterfall and agile projects, expert in project management tools such as Jira and/or Microsoft DevOps
  • Solid understanding of Enterprise PDM applications such as Siemens Teamcenter and IBM Rational Suite of applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, present findings to management, and liaise with external stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL Foundations CSPO, CSM, or other industry-recognized certifications are highly desirable
