As the integral member of OMRON Automation Americas (OAA) Manufacturing Department, the Senior Software Mfg. Engineer is responsible for developing, validating, implementing and maintaining the various process control software that are used in manufacturing our complex electronic products. To this end the Engineer will be responsible for managing projects involving the development, evaluation, and improvement of the software tools used in our manufacturing methods and processes for both sustaining engineering and the introduction of new products. They will be tasked with the architectural design and implementation of various IT/OT (ERP/MRP, MES, PLM systems) and Digital Transformation (DX) strategic efforts. In addition, the engineer will be responsible for digitization, visualization and automation for the factory using software tools and business systems in alignment with the Omron New Production System guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the manufacturing automation and control strategy, ensuring to leverage OMRON products and solutions to showcase to customers.
  • Lead efforts in digitization, visualization and automation using software tools and business systems in alignment with ONPS
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and automation solutions for the production line, Quality and R&D.
  • Develop test specifications, test procedures and production test automation for electronic devices.
  • Train technicians on the use of automation solutions, equipment and procedures.
  • With an inherent sense of urgency - troubleshoot, determine root cause and resolve issues with the automation software that negatively influence daily productivity.
  • Proactively commission and start-up of a variety of automated manufacturing processes and equipment that add value through efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in transferring new products from R&D into production using proven project management strategy.
  • Thoroughly follow structured Software Development practices to ensure fast and efficient development. Resolves problems with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
  • Review and evaluate engineering changes, drawings, BOMs, and such for their impact on the automation.
  • Contribute to projects by creating design specifications, software configuration and testing

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a relevant Engineering degree (Master's degree preferred)
  • Five or more years of software architecture design experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Documented experience and demonstrated proficiency using C# and VB software development tools
  • Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and SQL databases and queries
  • Demonstrated experience in developing test specifications and test procedures - while providing excellent documentation
  • Documented experience managing and leading a technical cross departmental project team to a successful conclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding of embedded and electromechanical systems
