Job Description Summary

AAM System Engineering team is looking for a world class fluids systems engineer with thermal and tribological background specialized in motor and gearbox thermal optimization through simulation and engineering tests. As designs mature and prototypes are tested, it is paramount to track both model accuracy and design capability through empirical testing while further improve the model accuracy and inform existing design parameters before product launch.

Job Description

This candidate is expected to lead and work collaboratively with existing team members by:

* Understand system specification

* Perform sensitivity analysis

* Understand the existing thermal system design and available input variables

* Build fluid system model and motor/gearbox thermal model connected with in house lubrication model and lubricant database

* Validate model through engineering tests

* Analyze data and find thermal system variables which meet design requirement

* Optimize existing model by adjusting analytical model using experimental data

* By building above model with high confidence level, the goal is to inform design with optimized thermal system inputs and lubricant properties

Responsibilities

* Collaborate with CAE members to build and optimize thermal system model

* Bridge it with existing thermal models and lubricant database

* Design, coordinate, and execute of drive unit system level as well as component/subcomponent level (if needed) tests for the explicit purpose of model validation

* Create characterization test plans suitable for early prototypes and/or mass production units

* Work with engineering teams to compile, analyze and document test profiles and results to ensure complete validation of all requirements as programs mature

* Coordinate with prototype build team to build, inspect and manage instrumented unit test

* If needed, assist testing for all drive system models including but not limited to: traction motors, traction inverter, gearbox, thermal, lubrication and hydraulic systems

Required Skills and Education

* Bachelors degree with 7+ years of relevant experience

* Experience with variety of tribological testing and deep understanding on when to apply what

* Experience with instrumentation, measurement, calibration, and laboratory testing.

* Experience creating and executing DVP&R and DOE to validate performance requirements

* Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Engineering preferred

* Practical experience with thermal modeling

* Working knowledge of lubricant fundamentals, rheology, and lubricant formulations a plus

* Working knowledge of heat transfer and thermal management a plus

* Experience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB) a plus

* Experience in 3D modeling a plus. NX preferred

* Automotive component/system testing experience a plus

* Working knowledge of motors and gearboxes
