As an important member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, the Manufacturing Engineer will rely on their strong personal initiative to drive projects and represent Operations in cross-departmental projects and collaboration efforts. Their success will be validated by their effective and efficient cross-departmental communication and collaboration resulting in waste and variation reduction, their demonstrated commitment to customer service to Production, and the timely closure of assignments. Their responsibilities will include the maintenance, sustaining, and improvement of existing product lines, New Product Introduction (NPI) into Production, the development and support of production flow, assembly methods, test sequences, and the overall processes required to produce our highly complex electronic and electro-optical assemblies. Additionally, Manufacturing Engineering drives Manufacturing Process Improvements, supports Lean / Continuous Improvement Programs, and provides engineering support to the Production team for sustaining and line-down issues. There is a strong emphasis on minimizing issues in Production through prevention and risk mitigation and, when they occur, resolving problems through lasting root cause corrective action methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and improve upon manufacturability guidelines and effectively communicate strategies in supporting NPI activities.
  • Evaluate new designs and work with Engineering and other stakeholders to achieve manufacturability and production test goals.
  • Be responsible for the successful introduction of new products into production.
  • Provide input on DFMEA and DFX exercises, and lead PFMEA analysis on new designs.
  • Develop, procure, and implement processes and fixturing to support the safe, efficient, repeatable, and predictable production of new designs.
  • During development of processes and fixturing, evaluate often and thoroughly with Production, Engineering, and other stakeholders. Capture and incorporate feedback.
  • Interface with all levels of Production employees to understand Operator requirements and to evaluate the effect of design decisions on Operator safety, comfort, and ability to produce high quality products at established cost and volume requirements.
  • Train Production personnel and mentor more junior members of the Manufacturing Team to do likewise.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and methods.
  • Maintain and report status updates and project plans for key operations activities.
  • Treats 'red light' line-down conditions as top priority and adjusts schedule accordingly.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, along with a Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred)
  • Two or more years of Manufacturing Engineering experience, to include designing processes in an electronic device manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team
  • Proven hands-on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement and building the best processes
  • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced iterative design environments within a complex electro-mechanical manufacturing industry
  • Proven proficiency with DFMEA, DFX and PFMEA methodology and implementation as demonstrated by a relevant portfolio of work
  • Documented experience driving projects and communicating project status and updates to all levels of leadership
  • Experience with 3DCAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (preferred)
