Location: Muskegon, MI
Hours: 2nd shift, Monday - Friday 3:15 pm - 11:30 pm

Job Function:
This position is primarily responsible for controlling heat-treat furnaces and quenching equipment used to alter physical and chemical properties of metal objects to company methods, processes, and specifications. Steel toed shoes and ANSI approved safety glasses with side shields must be worn at all times.

Responsibilities Include but Not Limited to:

  • Follow established SPI for temperature and time of heating cycle, and type and temperature of and quenching baths to attain specified hardness and toughness of parts.
  • Load and remove parts into and out of furnace after prescribed time and quenches parts in air, water and/or oil baths.
  • Use standard heat-treat charts, and utilizes knowledge of heat-treat methods, equipment and metal properties ensuring consistent altering of materials.
  • Set up and operates die-quenching machine to prevent parts from warping.
  • Adjust furnace controls and observes pyrometer to ensure furnaces are operating at prescribed temperatures.
  • Use specifications and methods of controlled heating and cooling, such as hardening, tempering, annealing, case hardening and normalizing to ensure heat treating quality.
  • May test hardness of parts using Rockwell hardness testing equipment.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • May be required to test dimension characteristics as required by route, SPI.
  • Operate variety of furnaces including rotary gas, high-temperature electric, vacuum, and belt.
  • Operate induction (selective) hardening equipment and cryogenic (deep freeze) equipment.
  • Steel toed shoes and ANSI approved safety glasses with side shields must be worn at all times.
  • Perform continuous improvement (lean) activities as may be assigned or required.
  • Perform first piece inspection for other operators if required.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as scheduled and/or required.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of manufacturing experience with a basic knowledge of production machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, process drawings, instructions, and technical data.
  • Must be in good physical condition with full mobility including the ability to stoop, bend, and lift up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to pass a forklift license test.
