PER DIEM NP/PA - Trauma Acute Care Surgery - St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, MA

Under the general supervision and direction of the Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery or designee, conduct a wide variety of patient care and related duties in support of SHG Surgeons. Position will function as first call for all emergency department consults with physician back-up primarily for Surgical Specialties. Conduct rounds as needed for Trauma and Acute Care Surgery patients. Assist in OR for trauma cases as necessary. Overnight APP coverage for SLH. Knowledge and skill of orthopedic disorders and treatments is required. Skill in operating medical equipment, a variety of software applications and multiple projects is required AND/OR Nurse Practitioner is required.

Hours: Per Diem varies; 7a - 7p; 7p - 7a; 11a - 11p; 7a - 7a
Shift: Days, nights, weekends, rotational, holidays

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required. Graduate of an A.M.A.-approved Physician Assistant program is required. Certification by the National Commission of Physician Assistants within one year of hire is required
  • Family Nurse Practitioner: Master of Science Degree in Nursing is required. Family Nurse Practitioner required to see patients of all ages. Certification from a National accrediting body to practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Current Massachusetts R.N. registration is required.
  • Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License is required.
  • One year experience required.
  • Surgical First Assistant preferred for Nurse Practitioner

Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus and provide required vaccination documentation unless approved for an exemption or deferral by Southcoast prior to starting employment.
