At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Structural Senior/Staff Analyst to help us advance the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Perform structural sizing and structural integrity evaluations using agreed analysis methods.
- Write technical reports that are accurate, clear, and comprehensive to be peer reviewed by other analysts.
- Be proactive in learning new skills, taking on new assignments, learning analysis methods and procedures.
- Assist the senior analysts in developing standardized analysis methods and preparing for technical interchange meetings or program reviews.
- Maintain good communication with peers and leads when onsite or remote.
- Support test preparation, execution, and reporting results to validate and verify components meet requirements and specifications.
- Think ahead and ask questions. Making mistakes is acceptable if we understand and learn from them. Focus on fixing problems when they arise and not placing blame.
- BS in Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 4-8 years of applicable engineering experience.
- Must be a US Citizen or Legal US Permanent Resident.
- Strong English written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Windows 10.
- Flexibility to work primarily at our Manassas VA or Cambridge, MAsites with partial remote work.
- Experience in classical hand analysis for strength and stability of metallic and composite components.
- Demonstrate proficiency in FEM idealization and good modeling practices using Femap, Nastran, ANSYS, Abacus or other FEA packages.
- Ability to explain and present analysis and assumptions in a rational manner to leadership and teammates.
- Able to work independently through common analysis tasks.
- Willing to take on difficult or complex aircraft structural challenges by applying various learned aerospace industry standard classical analysis techniques for both metallic and composite structures.
- Understanding of metallic and composite materials (e.g., forming, machining, lamination theory, fabrication and assembly processes, etc.).
- Automate workflows for speed and efficiency using Microsoft Office 365, VBA, Python, Matlab, or Boeing custom tools.
- Ability to effectively present technical data in written and oral form.
- Experience in writing certification reports for Military or FAR Part 23/25/27.
- Leading small teams through completion of a task in support of a larger milestone.
- Experience with finite element modeling using Femap, Nastran, ANSYS, Abacus or others.
- Experience with a 3D CAD package CATIA V5, Solidworks, Creo, NX/Unigraphics, Fusion 360, etc.

- Ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft and work in a manufacturing facility supporting all elements of composite and metal manufacturing.
- Travel may be required.
