POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Under general direction, the Sign Inspector performs inspections and investigations of signs within the City to enforce the City's Sign ordinance. Conducts field investigations and determines compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

  • Performs extensive inspections on all signage; receives complaints of noncompliance and performs inspections to determine if there are infractions; inspects all elements of signage and evaluates placement based on city codes; takes pictures and collects evidence.
  • Conducts and performs field investigations of businesses, properties, and sites to determine compliance with sign code regulations and laws; ensures businesses have business tax receipts and all necessary posted signage.
  • Counsels and educates business and property owners, contractors, citizens, and others on all matters related to signage and other assigned ordinances.
  • Receives complaints regarding potential violations; investigates and researches complaints, takes photographs, determines responsibility, develops a case file, and prepares all necessary documentation to address violations.
  • Gathers and compiles all information, data, and notes from inspections and prepares detailed reports; enters data into database and assists in the activities to bring noncompliant signage into compliance.
  • Generates all necessary legal documents to handle, process, and track violations; enforces all code ordinances and prepares all packets of information regarding code enforcement for hearings in the timeframe allotted.
  • Performs re-inspections to ensure that all conditions of the initial inspection have been corrected; closes cases when all conditions are met and files appropriate documents with the records department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) certification is preferred.
 
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or G.E.D. Certificate AND two (2) years of experience in investigations, inspections, code enforcement or other relevant government experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
